The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Act, Act 154 of the Public Acts of 1974, as amended, was enacted to provide every Michigan employee with a safe and healthful workplace. Section 27 of the Act and Part 12, Variances, allows employers to request permission from the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) to vary from a MIOSHA rule provided the proposed method provides an environment that is at least as safe and healthful as those required by MIOSHA rules.
