Larry W. Gathman of Mason passed away on December 12, 2017. He was born on June 27, 1940, in Mulberry, Kansas to the late Wayne and Leona Gathman. He was 77 years old.

Larry was a small-engine aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Army, and he also served in the National Guard. In 1968, he proudly founded L&L Construction, where he was nationally recognized for pioneering race-track milling. Larry was an avid model airplane builder (and rebuilder!), and he was a winning race car driver for both midget and stock cars. He also had a passion for his mahogany Chris-Craft boats.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; children, Steve (Nora) Gathman and Shannon Gathman; grandchildren, Grace and Grant; stepchildren, Kameron Chamberlain and Justin (Heather) Chamberlain; and step-grandchildren, Morgan and Jayden Chamberlain, and Kyla and Alex Chamberlain.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017, at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel. His family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

MITA would like to extend its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Larry, as well as to the team at L&L Construction.
