Electronic Reporting

What a difference a couple of weeks can make. During the MITA summer conference, we reported to the Board of Directors that electronic reporting of OSHA logs (300, 300A and 301) of high hazard industries like ours will be required to be done on OSHA’s website.  The electronic reporting rule took effect January 1, 2017 and requires certain employers to electronically submit injury and illness data.

Here are the specifics: Establishments with 250 or more employees must submit their 2017 forms (300, 300A and 301) by July 1, 2018. Establishments with 20-249 employees in certain “high-risk” industries, construction code 23 falls under this list, must submit information from their 2017 Form 300A by July 1, 2017. Beginning in 2019 and every year thereafter, the information must be submitted by March 2.

The record keeping rule that is now in place with OSHA is also being adopted by MIOSHA. After some discussion with MIOSHA’s management and MITA staff, MIOSHA has chosen to direct Michigan companies to the OSHA reporting page instead of working through the development issues of a stand-alone program that would just end up re-transmitting the same information to the OSHA system.
