With crews busy out in the field, the issue of jobsite safety is paramount.  Fatalities caused by falls continue to be a leading cause of death for construction workers, accounting for 350 of the 937 construction fatalities nationally in 2015. These deaths were preventable.  In order to help prevent these tragedies, OSHA is sponsoring  a voluntary event -- the National Fall Prevention Stand-Down, May 8 – 12.  MIOSHA is hoping to have construction employers participate in the event and conduct a stand-down.  Any workplace can hold a stand-down by taking a break to focus on fall hazards and reinforcing the importance of fall prevention.  It’s a chance for you to have a conversation with employees about hazards, protective methods, company safety policies and goals.  It can also be an opportunity for employees to talk to management about fall hazards that they see or other concerns.

MITA is hoping that our member companies participate in the event and conduct a stand-down.  If you plan to participate, please contact MITA’s Director of Safety and Compliance, Matt McClintick, by email (mattmcclintick@mi-ita.com) or call the MITA office at 517-347-8336.  If you want a MIOSHA officer to be present as a resource (this will NOT be a site inspection), please let Matt know and he will make the arrangements for you.
