JOB POSTING: Workforce Development Position

 

Title:                Director of Workforce Development

For:                 Recruiting young people to the heavy construction industry

Reports to:     Executive Vice President/VP of Membership Services

 

Job Summary

 

The Director of Workforce Development will be primarily responsible for growing relationships with member companies, partner organizations, schools and other external groups in an effort to educate students, young people and others on the value of a career in the construction industry. In addition, the position will create and maintain relationships with corporate, non-profit, education and government leaders who are also interested in promoting career and technical training for construction professionals.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

 

·      Establish a strong workforce development program for recruiting high school and college age individuals to the construction industry.

·      Build strategic and advantageous partnerships with high schools, school districts, career education centers, veterans groups, trade associations, college and corporate partners to support the workforce development program.

·      Provide information on the workforce development program to prospective students at appropriate on-site locations such as career fairs.

·      Work with MITA staff internally to develop a marketing plan, including promotional materials that can be taken on the road for recruiting.

·      Develop services and programs, including a section of the MITA website, to enhance workforce development.

·      Maintain consistent dialogue with MITA members companies seeking young talent to ensure that workforce development tactics align with their needs.

·      Plan to maximize the use of the MITA building as a recruiting space, including the potential for classes, seminars and possible day camps.

·      Coordinate an industry coalition where all industry groups come together and share ideas (CAM, AGC, MCA, etc.)

 

Day To Day Duties

 

·      Provide staff support for all administrative functions related to the position.

·      Serve as staff liaison to the MITA Board of Directors regarding the on-going promotion and development of the workforce development program.

·      Communicate with high school counselors/shop teachers, prospective students, parents and communities through appointments, phone, email and promotional materials.

·      Assist with the development of marketing publications and communications, including letters, brochures, website postings, email, videos and other mediums.

·      Field phone calls from the public regarding the workforce development program and other issues related to the position.

·      Foster relationships with MichiganWorks!, job placement agencies, veterans affairs agencies, as well as others as appropriate.

·      Other duties as assigned by the Executive Vice President and other executive staff members.

 

Long-Term Goals

 

·      Explore the creation of a MITA Workforce Development Committee to gather info and statistics on how to make the workforce development program stronger and more efficient as a recruitment tool for the overall industry.

·      Manage industry-wide coordination of various workforce development efforts.

·      Assist with developing additional long-term goals.

 

Salary, Benefits & Other Details

 

·      This is a full-time salaried position based in Okemos. Salary will be commensurate with experience and education.

·      There is a good amount of travel involved with the position, as it will require visiting different high schools and organizations around the state for recruitment and educational purposes, thus a vehicle will be included.

·      MITA offers a competitive benefits package, including health care, dental and 401k.

·      Qualified applicants should have a valid Michigan driver’s license.

The Michigan Infrastructure & Transportation Association is a statewide construction trade association that consists of nearly 600 Michigan companies representing construction disciplines such as road and bridge, sewer and water, utility, railroad, excavation and specialty construction throughout the state of Michigan. MITA was established in 2005, when the Associated Underground Contractors (AUC) and the Michigan Road Builders Association (MRBA) merged.
