In Memoriam - Roger Van Omen
Monday, April 4, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Roger Van Omen, a man who was actively involved in the heavy/highway construction industry for his entire career. He was 81.
After graduating from Michigan Tech, Roger's career began as an MDOT Project Engineer, when he worked on the construction of I-496 around Lansing. He was then recruited by Angelo DiPonio at Greenfield Construction Co., where he was a Vice President and Chief Estimator for many years. When Greenfield closed, Roger joined several Greenfield employees to form Merriman Construction. When Roger retired from Merriman, he found that he wanted to continue working, so he joined the Wayne County Department Services as Chief Engineer in their water/wastewater group.
Roger served his country in the U.S. Army as a command officer. He enjoyed hosting his family at the lake and making many memories together. He was also an avid golfer and recreational fisherman.
Roger is survived by 4 daughters, 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two sisters, as well as extended family and friends.
Services for Roger will be held privately.
