Take Part in Michigan Construction Career Days
Friday, April 24, 2015
Since 2008, Michigan Construction Career Days (MICCD) is Michigan’s premier construction career exploration event. MICCD provides Michigan’s youth a chance to experience construction up close and personal. Students get the opportunity to use real tools, materials and operate heavy equipment under the direct guidance of construction professionals from all sectors of the industry. Young people not only see what construction is, but also learn about the training, education and career paths that lead to good paying jobs in the construction industry.
MICCD will be held on May 7 & 8 and will include:
• A tested blend of construction education, training and career information booths. The information booths are sponsored by colleges, universities and other industry organizations providing information on various construction careers.
• Hands-on activities that are sponsored by companies and skilled-trades organizations, including: wood cutting and nailing, copper pipe sweating, electrical wire pulling, masonry, heavy equipment repair, wind-turbines demonstrations, etc.
• Large outdoor displays with static heavy equipment, construction vehicles, solar arrays and other types of construction related displays.
• Actual equipment that students can climb in and operate under close supervision.
MITA is a proud sponsor of MICCD, and we take a very active role with our seat on the advisory committee. Nearly 2,000 students from across the state are expected at this year’s event, which is made possible through donations of time, equipment and funding. Leadership from the Capitol have been invited, along with Governor Rick Snyder, who has made appearances at MICCD the last several years.
If you would like to donate time, equipment or make a monetary donation, please contact MITA’s Director of Safety and Workforce Development, Matt McClintick, at 517-347-8336 or at email@example.com.
