It’s been a busy week at the Capitol as the Legislature works their way through the lame duck session. The efforts to get the Michigan House of Representatives to pass a road funding solution before the end of the year have not lessened, and they must continue with YOUR help.

A lot can be accomplished with help from the general public from the comfort of their homes. As you saw earlier this week, a petition is circulating, a video is being shared, and requests to contact your state legislator have been constant. These are all important pieces that will be crucial to success.

If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes today to do all of the following:

1. Contact your state representative. Making a call to your state representative’s office is so important, and it is an excellent way to remind your elected official that they have a duty to represent the communities that voted for them by investing in our state’s infrastructure.

2. Sign the petition. Signing petitions is an excellent way to generate widespread support in an organized fashion. Having actual names on a petition proves to the Legislature that the citizens of Michigan are on board with finding a solution to the road funding problem.

3. Share the video. A video was put together to highlight the growing problems facing the state due to underinvestment in infrastructure. The video includes interviews with MDOT and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. Help spread the word to generate more support.

Remember that your voice and your name are powerful weapons that can be used to influence public policy in a way that is favorable to the state. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Mariam Robinson, Outreach Coordinator, if you have any questions or concerns or if you need assistance contacting your legislator. Mariam can be reached at 517-347-8336 or at mariamrobinson@mi-ita.com.
