The April 18, 2002 news article, "Local firm gets contract for sewers" highlights the award of a sewer project in Tallmadge Township to a local underground contractor.
While factually correct the article contains a quote by Township Engineer Gary Voogt that is at best childish and at worst unprofessional. I am referring to a mistake in the bid of Kentwood Excavating. Mr. Voogt commented that, "They decided it was important to have a contractor who could add up a column of numbers correctly."
This association represents all of the bidders on the Tallmadge Township project. All have excellent reputations for performing quality work, including Kentwood Excavating. To imply that a simple error in calculation somehow casts doubt on a company's capabilities is preposterous.
This lame attempt at humor certainly casts doubt on the character of the township's engineer.
