Not all state bridges so mighty

Happy 50th birthday this weekend to the Mackinac Bridge, the majestic span that links Michigan's peninsulas. The Mac's in great shape for a 50-year-old, which, unfortunately, cannot be said of many of its smaller cousins around the state. The Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association released a list Thursday of more than 200 lesser-known bridges that are in serious to critical condition. What will it take to fix them? Higher taxes on gasoline, the source of funds for road repairs. The Michigan gas tax hasn't gone up in a decade. The cost of road repairs certainly has. It would be nice to say we can cross that bridge when we come to it, but at this rate, it might not be there.
