In January 2008, MDOT will begin the formal process of updating the 2003 Standard Specifications for Construction. MDOT’s goal is to have the “next” edition of the standard specifications published in late 2010.
As MITA will be an active partner with MDOT in this update effort, we are looking for volunteers who are willing to commit the time and energy necessary to provide thorough review and constructive comment for each division, Divisions 1 thru 8. There will not be a Division 9 – Materials committee as each of the other division committees will be responsible for the review and update of their respective parts of Division 9.
This is your opportunity to be an active participant in updating the MDOT Standard Specifications for Construction, used not only by MDOT, but also by counties, cities, and even private developers throughout Michigan.
Volunteers for each division will be expected to participate in 3-6 “industry only” meetings to review and formulate comments, and 1-3 “industry and MDOT” meetings to discuss and clarify industry comments. Some volunteers may be asked to participate in a small committee format that will prepare unresolved industry issues for presentation to the MDOT Impasse Panel for final disposition. We anticipate the industry review process will begin in mid 2008 and conclude about 6-8 months later ….. so when you volunteer please recognize the commitment of time we will be expecting, and you will be making.
