The potholes in Michigan are so bad one group is holding a contest. If you shoot a picture of giant pothole it could lead you to a pot of gold.
At the Michigan Welcome Center you'll find brochures about Michigan, but nothing about the potholes.
Drivers know giant potholes are out there, but one website is offering a reward for a picture of the state's worst offender. DriveMI will hand out a $370 prize to one or more winners who can shoot a massive pothole and live to tell about it.
In Monroe County, we fielded numerous complaints in person and on Facebook bout Rauch Road. Many blame the economy.
According to the website, Michigan faces a $16 billion shortfall from 2003 to 2025 in highway, road and bridge funding. This pothole campaign is backed by dozens of organizations, including the Michigan Sheriff's Association, Michigan Retailers Association, numerous unions and Chambers of Commerce. The goal here is to re-route money by exposing some downright rough roads.
The deadline for the contest is April 12th. The average cost of a pothole repair is $370.
