House Republicans Push $500M Road Funding Plan

MITA’s Executive Vice President Mike Nystrom is quoted in the article about a House Republican road funding proposal that was announced April 3 at a press conference. “The proposal only gets about half the amount needed to get the roads back in good shape, said Mike Nystrom, executive vice president of the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association, which pegs the road improvement needs in the state at $2 billion a year.”

According to this article, which discussed the House road funding proposal at length, representatives from the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council and Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association said they supported Bolger's proposal during a news conference.

The Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association says the money now needed for the necessary improvements to our roads is $2 billion a year. This proposal doesn’t even provide one fourth of that. Basically it would merely slightly slow the deterioration.”
