The class schedule is listed below:
Session 1 – Get Involved: Know Your Association – Tuesday, April 28, 2015, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Get a behind-the-scenes look at the MITA organizational structure and the resources that are available for the industry. Participants will develop a thorough understanding of the various arenas in which MITA is involved
and the benefits of being active in the association.
Session 2 – Speak Out: Be an Effective Legislative Advocate – Wednesday, May 20, 2015, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The legislative process is very complicated, but your involvement can make a difference. Learn the differences between Washington and Lansing and how they affect the construction industry. Emphasis will be placed on understanding how a bill becomes law, the role of legislative leadership and committees, and the importance of individual involvement. State capitol visits are planned for the afternoon.
Session 3– Work Smart: Labor Law/Human Resources & Business Accounting Part I –
Tuesday, June 16, 2015, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Managers must deal with employee related issues, such as; hiring, termination, communication issues, labor contracts to name a few. This session will cover the major obstacles that could be faced. Accounting 1 will introduce participants to the basics that they will need to know to effectively run a business.
Session 4 – Rookie Mistakes: Know the Rules and Regulations – Monday, September 21, 2015, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Some mistakes that negatively impact a construction business are played out far too often. This session will leave participants with a clear understanding of how to get ahead of potential claims and better understand job site processes in order to limit common problems.
Session 5– Keep Learning: Healthcare, Bonding, Insurance and Business Accounting Part II – Wednesday, October 21, 2015, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Let the professionals take you through the multitude of issues that can negatively impact the bottom line. Accounting 11 will continue to build on the principles for financial success introduced in the previous session.
Session 6 – Take the Lead: Be an Effective Leader — Wednesday, January 20, 2016
Participants are required to attend the MITA Annual Conference for a special Future Leaders breakout session. You will learn to become a more dynamic leader for your company and for the entire industry. A graduation
ceremony for the Future Leaders Program will be held at the Opening General Session of the Annual Conference.
